How old fashioned is the Old Fashioned? Well, some say the first Whiskey Old Fashioned recipe was printed in 1895. That’s old.
This classic delivers a smooth taste of Whiskey mixed with Bitters, Sugar and Orange (or Lemon) that makes up the signature recipe guaranteed to put a smile on your face and some pep in your step.
A little history about one of the world’s greatest Cocktails. Some say that the drink actually originated in Louisville, Kentucky in 1880 at the famous Pendennis Club. The recipe is linked to Bartender and Bourbon Distiller, James E. Pepper. He allegedly brought the Cocktail to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and Bar in New York City. There are literally hundreds of versions, but we can all agree that the creation of this Cocktail is worthy of celebration and therefore, worthy of being its very own Classic Box on the Rocks Cocktail Kit.
The “Old Fashioned” was the name people called Cocktails back in the day. They’d say, “I want my Cocktail the Old Fashioned way.” Which basically translated into a Spirit of choice with some Sugar, Bitters and Water. And somewhere along the way, the term ended up being the actual name of its original recipe.
Our featured recommended Spirit is Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky. And for our mocktail recipe, we recommend Ritual Zero Proof Whiskey Alternative.
In addition to the hero Honey & Orange Old Fashioned, we’ve got a fun spin with the Gold Rush and the Fools Gold Mocktail, which is a perfect twist on the lead recipe without the alcohol.
