How old fashioned is the Old Fashioned? Well, some say the first Whiskey Old Fashioned recipe was printed in 1895. That’s old.

This classic delivers a smooth taste of Whiskey mixed with Bitters, Sugar and Orange (or Lemon) that makes up the signature recipe guaranteed to put a smile on your face and some pep in your step.

A little history about one of the world’s greatest Cocktails. Some say that the drink actually originated in Louisville, Kentucky in 1880 at the famous Pendennis Club. The recipe is linked to Bartender and Bourbon Distiller, James E. Pepper. He allegedly brought the Cocktail to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and Bar in New York City. There are literally hundreds of versions, but we can all agree that the creation of this Cocktail is worthy of celebration and therefore, worthy of being its very own Classic Box on the Rocks Cocktail Kit.

The “Old Fashioned” was the name people called Cocktails back in the day. They’d say, “I want my Cocktail the Old Fashioned way.” Which basically translated into a Spirit of choice with some Sugar, Bitters and Water. And somewhere along the way, the term ended up being the actual name of its original recipe.

Our featured recommended Spirit is Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky. And for our mocktail recipe, we recommend Ritual Zero Proof Whiskey Alternative.

In addition to the hero Honey & Orange Old Fashioned, we’ve got a fun spin with the Gold Rush and the Fools Gold Mocktail, which is a perfect twist on the lead recipe without the alcohol.

This classic inspiration comes complete with BOTR Clover Blossom Honey, Dirty Sue Whiskey Cherries, ReaLemon Lemon Juice, Dardimans Dehydrated Orange Slices, and Bitters. Best of all, your expert Bar Tool is an Ice Mold so you can make the perfect ice cube for your recipes. And if you want to get really fancy, add some of your Dehydrated Orange Wheels to the water when making your ice cubes.

So, let’s all raise our glass to 1880 and thank the Master Mixologists of yore. Say cheers to the Old Fashioned being born and let’s make Cocktails the Old Fashioned way.

Maker's Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky

Never bitter or sharp, Maker’s Mark is made with soft Red Winter Wheat, instead of the usual Rye, for a one-of-a-kind, full-flavored Bourbon that’s easy to drink. To ensure consistency, ever barrel is rotated by hand to age the Bourbon by taste, not time.

Ritual Zero Proof Whiskey Alternative

The Oak, smoke, Caramel and comforting warmth of Whiskey, without the alcohol or calories. For non-alcoholic classics like an Old Fashioned and Whiskey Sour, inspired Mixology, simple serves with soda or juice, and everything in between.
